Barcelona and solar eclipse

Hello from Barcelona <3

I'm here for the weekend with Anders - just him, me, some quantum physics mandatory assignments (Anders is teaching) and my Big Bang manuscripts. Mostly play, but there'll always be some work too - that's just how we like it :)

Barcelona is warm and and beautiful; there is wine, tapas, and basically everything you (or at least we) could wish for...except the solar eclipse. We "should have" gone to Svalbard and Longyearbyen this weekend, of course. Except I would have frozen to death. So even though it would have been great to see the solar eclipse, I´m actually choosing warm weather, palms, no snow, Cava (bubbles bubbles bubbles <3), and Spanish cheese over freezing cold, snow, and solar eclipse any day ;)

guess it was "wrong" to eat and drink at an italian bar last night - but it was the first place we saw that was open (we were out too early for dinner, really) and looked nice, and Anders wanted pizza, so we went for it...we DON´T REGRET it, and will most likely go back again before we leave Barcelona on Sunday!

Happy happy Monday everybody <3

Last week (weekend included) was quite exhausting, with five different talks, one trip to Bergen, one trip to Ålesund, Lise´s thesis defence and so on… I had to do something i really HATE – I had to cancel a meeting I was supposed to go to on Friday, but I just really needed to spend my time on preparing for my talk Friday afternoon (at Ekerberg, with a beautiful view of beautiful Oslo, bathed in sunlight).

There was no real weekend this weekend (work work work, talk talk talk), and on Friday my neck and upper back stiffened (not the worst I´ve experienced, but still quite painful) - BUT...to the title of this blogpost:

Yes, periods like this is exhausting. But it is also extremely exciting! I was sitting at a café in Ålesund after I had finished my talk for NITO on Saturday (which seemed to have gone really well – they seemed happy and excited J ), preparing for the Ludvigsen committee meeting today and tomorrow, and I was drinking a glas of wine (since it, after all, was Saturday) – that´s when I realised I had been up since 4:20 AM, and also that I was actually working, but I was really happy, I was doing my job, sitting at a café in beautiful Ålesund, drinking wine! I´m so grateful to be in a position where I can call days and periods like these for my job! (I´ve worked for it, so I must admit that I think I´ve earned it, but I´m still grateful).

Anyway, I just had to tell you: I Love My Job <3

  

Dead tired

Good morning everyone!

Guessing a lot of you are still asleep...;) I´m not, though - I´ve been at Gardermoen airport for about 45 minutes already. Going to Ålesund to talk about physics and science and stuff for NITO, and then back again to night. I´ll be landing at 9:25 to night; so it´s really close to the epic date and time march 14, 2015 - 9:26:53 (3.141592653)... Yes, happy Pi Day to all!

Even though this week has been super busy, and I´m still at the office, preparing for my talk in Ålesund tomorrow. And I have to spend most of Sunday preparing for the next meeting with the Ludvigsen committee (Monday and Tuesday); I´m super happy <3

Sunniva tipser: Åpen Dag på UiO

God tirsdag alle!

Det hender stadig vekk at jeg får spørsmål om utdannelsen min, fysikkstudiet, Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) - der jeg har tatt hele min utdannelse, og i dag er ansatt,  jobbmuligheter osv... Til alle de som har denne typen spørsmål kommer et kjempetips: på torsdag denne uken (torsdag 12. mars, altså) er det Åpen Dag på UiO!

Gå på miniforelesninger og informasjonsmøter, snakk med studenter og representanter for studieprogrammene. Få informasjon om opptak, undervisning, bolig og studentforeninger - og opplev stemningen på campus. Åpen dag passer for elever i 2. og 3. klasse og alle andre som er interessert. Velkommen!

Åpen Dag er for alle som lurer på å studere på UiO, og ikke bare de som lurer på fysikk og realfag - så om det er samfunnsvitenskap eller humanistiske fag du kunne tenke deg er dette også dagen for DEG :D

Mitt hjerte banker dog ekstra mye for MatNat (realfag), og jeg har tidligere skrevet om 10 grunner til å velge matnat <3  (Bla. du får jobb og tjener godt, arbeidsgiver er veldig fornøyd med kandidater fra MatNat UiO og UiO er Norges beste universitet).

Hvis jeg skulle på Åpen Dag (eneste grunn til at jeg ikke skal dit i år er at jeg skal være to andre steder - egentlig samtidig - Lises disputas og workshop om forskningsformidling) ville jeg garantert ha dratt på foredraget

(Er det én ting jeg angrer på mtp valg jeg har gjort som student så er det at jeg har brukt alt for lite tid på å lære meg å programmere - så dra på dette foredraget og bli inspirert!)

I skrivende stund sitter jeg ved gate 10 på Gardermoen og venter på at <3 SAS <3 skal fly meg oppover til Bergen. Der skal jeg snakke om Utradisjonelle Valg på Jentekvelden på Næringslivsdagene til BI-studentene. Gleder meg!

Going crazy...

I´ve been working on talks (yes, plural) all day.

Yesterday I realised that I´ll be giving (and therefore also making - which is really the main part of it) 5 different talks in one week.

1. Thorium on Saturday
2. Personal talk about choices in Bergen (NHH) on Tuesday
3. Science Communication on Thursday (same day as Lise is defending her thesis - so I´ll be going back and forth between Tøyen and the University)
4. Mathematics for teachers on Friday (next Friday)
5. Nuclear physics and research and stuff in Ålesund (NITO) on Saturday (next Saturday)

Today I´ve mainly been working on the math-talk, which is the hardest one to make... "Why do we need math?"

Can´t wait till the 21st of March, when the first program airs (NRK at eight). I´m also really excited to film the next programs...

PS: Monday and Tuesday were so busy that I´m waaay behind on my to do-list. I´m thinking about trying a "no Facebook"(or Twitter or anything)-day tomorrow to get closer to my goal(s) this week - wonder how that will go :P
